Mariah’s musicality and talent is the very reason why I am a big Mariah fan.

I love her work and contribution to music and watching her live was one dream that I have achieved when she visited the country.

My most favorite album is the Butterfly which was released in 1997.  The first single released was of course Butterfly.  I think the song came out after she parted ways with then husband Tommy Mottola.  The song was really strong and encouraging.

But my most favorite song is Breakdown because of the mix and the R&B sound.  I also love the lyrics so much.  Too bad that during those times she had a problem with Sony records and it wasn’t commercially released in North America but it was a hit in Asia and in my heart as well.

I am so happy when I got to read in one of her interviews that this song is one of her favorites and she will definitely include it in her Greatest Hits album but unfortunately it didn’t make the cut.

Anyway, I’m sharing my favorite part from the song and the YouTube link as well.  Enjoy!

Well I guess I’m trying to be
Nonchalant about it
And I’m going to extremes to prove
I’m fine without you
But in reality I’m slowly losing my mind
Underneath a disguise of a smile
Gradually I’m dying inside
Friends ask me how I feel
And I lie convincingly
Cause I don’t want to reveal
The fact that I’m suffering
So I wear my disguise
Till I go home at night
And turn down all the lights
And then I break down and cry

So what do you do
When somebody you’re so devoted to
Suddenly just stops loving you
And it seems they haven’t got a clue
Of the pain that rejection is putting you through
Do you cling to your pride
And sing “I will survive”
Do you lash out and say “How dare you leave this way?”
Do you hold on in vain as they just slip away?

I have never seen Mariposa in a long time and just recently our Guyabano tree at home became a haven for three Mariposas.  My father wanted to capture it so they could preserve it besides it would die anyway.  It is said that Mariposa’s life span would normally last for a couple of days only.

But my idea was different; I wanted to spare the poor Mariposa its life.  So I decided to research and look for it in the internet.  Then, I found myself asking, what is mariposa, is it a butterfly or a moth?  And here is what I’ve got.

Although butterflies and moths are very similar, they have many differences. Most butterflies fly during the day, and most moths fly during the night. The best way to identify a butterfly from a moth is to look at its antenna. A butterfly’s antennas have knobs at the ends of their feelers, and the end of the moth’s antenna is either feather like or plain. Most butterflies rest with their wings held up above their bodies and most moths rest with their wings spread out flat. Typically butterflies have brightly colored wings and moths have dull colored wings. Most butterflies have slender, hairless bodies, while most moths have a fat abdomen and furry bodies. Butterflies form a chrysalis during the pupa stage of their lives. In moths, the chrysalis is normally contained inside a cocoon. Most moths have tiny hook or bristle hooking the forewings and hind wings together. Butterflies do not have this hook. Moths have existed about 100 million years longer than butterflies. So although butterflies and moths appear very much alike, there are quite a number of differences. (Taken from http://library.thinkquest.org/J002124/moths.htm)

After minutes of reading and looking for answers, I’ve got this answer, the life span of butterflies or moth depends on the specie it belongs to.  Some live for a couple of months and the longest is 3 ½ years.

I just hope that regardless if Mariposas live a short or long span of time, people would know how to respect its life.  I don’t believe that we have the right to capture them because they’d die anyway.  I just find it a very selfish and shallow reason.  Aside from that, they play a big part in our ecosystem.  So please if you know someone who still believes in this wrong mentality share this to them, let their eyes see that every living thing has the right to its life.  Let’s don’t break the balance of nature.  Let us play our role and let them play their part.
